SOO YU NENG
An aspiring filmmaker from Singapore. My journey into the world of visual storytelling began during my high school days when I was tasked with a video project. The process of conceptualizing and bringing ideas to life ignited a passion that continues to burn bright to this day.
However, I did not initially consider filmmaking as a career path. In 2014, I enrolled in a diploma business course, specializing in human resource management with psychology, at Singapore Polytechnic. It was during this time that I realized my true calling lay in creative storytelling.
Eventually, I went on to pursue a degree in filmmaking at Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media in 2019. Since then, I have written, directed, and produced several short films, with a focus on exploring themes and topics related to human nature and the afterlife.
One of the works I produced is the crime thriller "Hosen J," which explores the story of a writer who commits murder to gain inspiration for his next work. Another film I wrote, "Zen," is a coming-of-age story about a fresh graduate experiencing a quarter-life crisis and considering entering monkhood. My most recent project, "Human Pawn Shop," which I directed, delves into a corrupt world where people can pawn their intangible values, such as dignity, for money.
With a passion to create, I started NULL LABEL, a fashion brand with my sister in 2022.
